Un
Cantico di Primavera
A Song
of Spring
Benini, 1982
30" x 42"
Acrylics on Canvas
In
1982, while living on Lake
Harney, northeast of Orlando, Benini painted this tribute to the human being
who had a major influence on his creative life:
Brother
Francis of Assisi.
The
thornless roses that Benini painted for about 20 years, in this case, have a
direct relation to the legend dating back to the 13th century, whereby
Francis, trying to mortify the flesh, threw himself on a rose bush that not
only did not scratch him, but from then on produced thornless roses, still
growing near the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
