PLAYALINDA SERIES
The
Playalinda Series dates back to an early morning walk on Playalinda
beach, near Cape Canaveral in Florida, a site where giant sea
turtles lumber up on shore to lay their eggs in the sand. Park rangers do
their best to get there soon after and spread a protective metal mesh
over a nest site so raccoons do not dig them up. The morning Benini
walked the beach, some of the nests had already been disturbed. The
now-empty eggshells, still so tender and soft , started to curl up with
the sun's morning rays. Benini, seeing this, very selectively gathered
some of the unique shapes. These eventually became the models for the
Playalinda series.
